Who is this course for?
Practice Nurses or Nurse Associates new to primary care or those Nurses who wish to expand their knowledge in Contraception.
What will I learn?
The session will give an overview in effective counselling, Gillick competence/Fraser guidelines and legal issues surrounding contraception and the delivery of services. The session will cover method specific contraception including long-acting-reversible-contraception (LARC), mode of action, health risks and non-contraceptive benefits with particular focus on initiation of contraception, reviews and guidance related to missed pills or late contraceptive use and pregnancy risk in line with the Faculty of Sexual Reproductive Healthcare guidance. The session will aim to promote an understanding of emergency contraception and when to initiate. The training will consist of theoretical knowledge, practice-based scenarios and application of the UK medical eligibility criteria (UKMEC).
