Who is this course for?
Practice Nurses or Nurse Associates new to primary care or those Nurses who wish to expand their knowledge in Travel Health.
What will I learn?
This interactive session will provide an introduction to Travel Health, including effective risk assessments, the application of evidence-based practice and vaccine-preventable diseases. This course will provide an overview of NHS and private travel vaccines and their associated schedules, with a focus on the UK schedule and catch-up programmes relevant to current outbreaks. Throughout the session, learners will gain an understanding of Yellow Fever and associated certificate requirements under International Health Regulations, Malaria and Malaria Prophylaxis and insect bite transmitted diseases. The course aims to provide Nurses and/or Nurse Associates with the knowledge to effectively undertake travel risk assessments for patients and manage complex situations with application of guidance.
Covering:
- Theoretical training
- Practice-based scenarios
- NHS vaccines such as Tetanus, Typhoid and Hepatitis A
- MMR catch-up programme
- Private travel vaccines such as Hepatitis B, Rabies, Japanese Encephalitis and more
- Yellow Fever
- Certificate requirements for Yellow Fever and travel to Umrah/Hajj
- Malaria and chemoprophylaxis
- Insect-bite transmitted diseases
- Planning pregnancy before/after travel
- Insect bite avoidance measures
- Contraindications
