Ideal for Healthcare Assistants and Practice Nurses.
What will I learn?
You will learn the skills for providing motivational interviewing and healthy lifestyle counselling which are key to new/well patient checks and reviews.
During the session you will:
- Discuss what Motivational Interviewing is
- Gain a clearer understanding of ‘healthy living’ and where to go to find further information (e.g. healthy diet, fitness and exercise, alcohol support, smoking cessation)
- Gain an understanding of Motivational Interviewing and how you can help people change their behaviours
- Explore some tools to help you in Motivational Interviewing
- Look at communication skills needed for Motivational Interviewing
- Look at Change Talk
- Explore and evaluate health education materials

The course can available utilising NHSE funding for eligible individuals in general practice within Humber and North Yorkshire:

Introduction to Medical Terminology, including medical sciences and systems of the body, prefixes and suffixes, common conditions and medications, terms and abbreviations.

Understand and recognise different types of conflict and the best methods of avoiding or resolving them.
